Melbourne, Australia

I met with James & Rebecca in Melbourne. J & R are two friends from high school... it was wild to see Valpo people here at the bottom of the world!

Melbourne is down on the south coast of Australia across from Tasmania. This ugly customer is a stuffed Tasmanian Devil in the Melbourne Museum.
This clock in a Melbourne shopping mall lowers the bottom piece every hour on the hour and the little birds and characters perform the Waltzing Matilda.

The top of the Realto Tower provides a great view of the surrounding area. The bridge is the Bolti Bridge, completed in 2000. Down the way is a second bridge named Westgate. Section 13 of Westgate collapsed during construction in 1970 and killed dozens. Which other section would you have expected to fall?

Melbourne actually reminds me a lot of Philadelphia, as it is an older, more historical area with a number of colleges. The trolley system is still in operation and is even being expanded, although nobody seems to pay the toll. People just get on and sit down... I saw one person pay the toll the three times I took the trolley.

The bay and the Tasman Straight are visible near the horizon here.

The three dots on the picture here are probably UFOs... or just the reflection of the glass in the tower... where is Leonard Nemoy when we need him?
